THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU PAINT

At Richmond Painting, we know that if you do it right, a painting task can be done without a huge dent in your wallet. If you don’t do it properly though, it can cost you in the long run. Here are things we highly recommend you do before you begin a painting job.

First of all, safety is the most important part of the project. Painters are involved in quite a few injuries each year. You definitely want to make sure that you have a sturdy ladder for those high to reach places.

Arguably the next most important thing after safety is finding the right color paint. Once you find the color you like, you then want to make sure it looks good under the proper lighting. You might want to test it by placing the color paint samples on a white poster board and view the colors under different lighting. You also will want to choose the right paint sheen. A flat, shine-free paint finish is fine for rich color, but if you want one that is easier to clean, a satin finish would be more to your liking while if you have a high-stylized room, high-gloss paint is likely the way to go.

You definitely don’t want to forget the primer for paint durability and extra protection for the surface that is about to be painted. You also want to plan for at least two coats of paint if not more.

Taping the area can be a long and sticky process, so if you don’t want to tape the areas, try using an edger instead. Paint the trim and the ceiling first and then use an edger for a clean paint perimeter. Paint the walls last.

You will want to allow yourself plenty of time, at least a few days if not a whole week. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your project will likely not get finished in a single day either. If you rush and try to get it over with as quickly as possible, chances are that you will end up with a lousy paint job.

We wish you well should you choose to do your paint job by yourself. We are always a phone call away if you want to consult professional painters for your painting tasks. If you want to assure yourself of a quality paint job, please don’t hesitate to give Richmond Painting & Decorating a call today.
